Tommy Akridge is a lifelong resident of Mitchell County.  He is an agricultural business entrepreneur who has created numerous jobs in Southwest Georgia through out his professional career.  Tommy’s expertise in the agricultural industry have lead many professional organizations to seek his advice and place him on their executive boards.  Mr. Akridge also has legislative experience here at the Capitol in Georgia and in Washington D.C. In both locations he has fought for the right policies that will help the small farmer. Tommy’s motivation for seeking the office of State Representative for District 171 is his concerns that he has for rural Georgia in being able to maintain agriculture as the #1 industry in our state.

  • 1980 – Loan Supervisor for FmHA covering Colquitt and Thomas Counties.

  • 1985; Testified before the US House of Representatives Ag Committee on behalf of the Farm Bill.
  • 1985 – 2015 Served on the Mitchell County Farm Bureau Board of Directors.
  • 1987 – 1988 President Mitchell County Young Farmers Organization.
  • 1988 – Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College Master Young Farmer of the Year.
  • 1988 – 1989 President Mitchell County Farm Bureau.    
  • 1988 – 1999 Elected to serve on the Georgia Farm Bureau State Board of Directors.
  • 1988 – 2000 Appointed by the Governor to the Southwest GA Water Task Force.
  • 1989; Cover Story Farm Journal “Top Producer” magazine.
  • 1991; Leadership Georgia Class of 1991
  • 1993; Cover Story “Georgia Farmer” magazine.
  • 1995; Testified before the joint House and Senate Sub-committee on the Peanut Program and the Farm Bill.
